AMHERST TARGETING PESKY GYPSY MOTHS
Full Description:
Jack Green had to blow the feces off his back patio so his grandchildren could play.
The nasty culprits lurked in the trees above — hundreds of long black caterpillars waiting to grow into gypsy moths —that devour whole branches of leaves and indiscriminately expel their waste onto neighborhoods.
This week, a surveyor from the Ohio Department of Agriculture has been counting the number of trees that contain gypsy moth egg sacs in Amherst to determine if there’s enough for the state to spray the affected area. The seasonal lack of leaves allows for increased visibility.
